Olympus DP12

Adrian

Magnifications used: 4x, 10x, 20x, 40x, 60x, 100x
White balance set on a white are of the slide after each adjustment of the light on the microscope
The images are achieved in manual mode and over-exposed by 2/3 EV

My review of the camera:

Maximum resolution of DP12 is 2048x1536.
Results: high noise, dull pictures. A reasonable quality can be achieved by correcting brightness/contrast (best results with the "curves" tool). Scaling down the image (0.5x) partially takes care of the noise. Also, notice that the image taken with the 4x objective is slightly darker in the corners. This is not due to the camera but rather to the microscope adapter.
This camera is good enough for presentations and even for publication if you correct the images carefully.
If you need a digital camera on a day to day basis, consider a better one since making the proper adjustments for every image is time consuming.

  2. Overall, the corrected images are quite acceptable.  Playing with curves is very time consuming and I agree with Adrian's assessment.
