1. All dvd images are a maximum of 768 X 576.  This ratio is maintained.  A dvd player will shrink the image so the longest dimension is fully displayed within this size.  This shrinks the entire picture.  It is better to crop your image to guarantee your display results.  These images were both run through a dvd maker and the two sample images are (dvd cropped) and (cropped by me)

2. Contrast improved.
